Jon’s Story

Site created on August 21, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Jon had a horrific accident on Tues, Aug 16,  he fell 30 feet off the upper deck at the Lucas Oil stadium in Indianapolis landing on a glass partition.   He is at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, suffering from severe injuries.

Jon severed his artery that connects his heart to his groin, shattered his pelvis, damaged his lower vertebrae and nerves, lost a lot of blood and has limited feeling on his left side.  The doctors are unsure the amount of nerve damage he has.  His recovery is going to be long and very rough.

Jon has parts of his body that are missing and will need plastic surgery to replace and repair them, until then, he has a colostomy bag and catheter.   As you can imagine, Jon is in a lot of pain. and the whole family is very anxious and uncertain about what lies ahead .

Jon, Missi and family have a long road ahead and he will need tons of surgeries.   Jon will be in the hospital at least a month, then need in-patient rehab.  The family is hoping he will be able to get the rehab back home, at Mary Free Bed.

The family has been so overwhelmed and deeply grateful for all the love and support they are receiving from family and friends, as well as the community!

Journal entry by Missi Bruckbauer

Good new today!! We saw Dr Bielema this morning and Jons pelvis is finally begun to heal!  He can start weight bearing in small increments and will begin physical therapy!!! Thank you for all your prayers!  This has been a moment we have been waiting for!!! Praise be to our awesome God!!

I would like to ask for prayers for Jons surgeon at this time.  Dr Bielema is taking 3 months off starting next Wednesday due to some medical issues of his own.  He did not share details  with but his emotion and Concern were very evident. Please pray to God to heal whatever  Dr. Bielema is facing and to give him the strength and courage to face whatever hurdles are put in his path.
