Journal entry by Kyla Wolfe

A lot has happened in the last couple days and ALL in the right direction. They took dad off the breathing machine and he has been off it for two days now. His throat is extremely soar and his voice is very hoarse. He is becoming more lucid the longer he is off his sedation. He asked to call mom and said he wanted to meet her in the gift shop. Physical therapy has been working with him some to take a few steps  using a walker. He pulled out the tube in his nose and the Dr. just decided to keep it out. He passed a test to make sure he is able to swallow and he is on a soft foods diet. He is still swollen so he is still getting medications to get rid of that. He can talk now with the staff and they said how his is spirits are and vigor to recover from this. After all this progress he was able to be moved to the next level down of  care! Today they did an ECG to check the electrical activity of his heart and they said it is getting stronger and should most likely continue to do so- especially as the excess fluid continues to come off. There is even talk from the Dr. that we could be looking at possible discharge by the end of the week if he becomes strong enough. However they would still be staying in Arizona at the care house by the hospital for a time as they have all the equipment necessary to help with dads care as he continues to regain strength and a leave of mind for mom as she gains a better understanding of all the meds dad will be on. He will also be discharged with what’s called a defibrillator vest that would deliver a shock if his heart would throw an abnormal life threatening rhythm again. So that is comforting. Thankyou for the continued prayers and comforting words. Let’s get dad home for the holidays!

God Bless, Yutzy Strong!
