John’s Story

Site created on November 4, 2019

John was admitted to the hospital on 10/20/19 with severe back pain. After attempts to figure out was going on and a notable high white blood cell count, eventually it was discovered that John has a staph aureus blood stream infection complicated by it entering various tissues such as his heart, spine, lung and knee. As it became apparent that he needed more intensive care he was transferred to Mayo Clinic 10/31/19. There have been continued changes and developments as doctors fight the infection and the subsequent issues that are arising from it. I will be helping to communicate updates on John's condition as I receive them. If you would please leave notes for John and Cindy here, this will be a great place that they can go to see well-wishes as this journey progresses. -Kara

Newest Update

Journal entry by Cindy Tometich

John made it home just in time for Christmas! They changed his IV antibiotic to one that is just once per day, which he is able to handle himself, with his port. Home health care is stopping in once a week. He will also have regular check-ups with his local doctor and follow-ups with the Mayo doctors, as well. The hemoglobin is still very low. He looks forward to its return to normal to gain some much needed energy.

A huge thank you to each one of you who have supported John and our family on this journey! I don’t know what we would have done without you. Bless you!
