John’s Story

Site created on April 27, 2009

Greetings family & friends. I've decided to use CaringBridge as the way of updating everyone about John's progress. I'll try to follow the format I used, telling you of the trips as well as what happens. I've saved all of your comments and will continue to. The many ways you've all shown that you care have touched our hears.

As many know at John's routine check up in January, he reported an insistent itch and a chest xray that had shown a possible problem.  His oncologist in Grand Forks immediately ordered a CT scan, the results showed that the lymphoma was back.  Lots more tests, 2 visits to Mayo, 2 treatment options, the birth of our granddaughter & we're back at Mayo for a treatment called radioimmunotherapy.  Uff da, what a title.  Everything starts tomorrow morning at 7:40 AM, no breakfast for John, he has to endure some tests first.  I'll eat, he says I get grouchy if I don't.  I'll write tonight in the jounal about our trip down and more tomorrow when we know more.

Journal entry by Mary Thorkildson

It is with a heavy heart that I write this entry. My John died Sunday, May 10 in the afternoon. I was fortunate to be with him. Thank you to all who have written such kind notes, made tributes. You have helped me through this more than you can imagine.
