Journal entry by Jennifer Crawford —
Last week John met with his neurologist who confirmed a diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer's. While it was not a surprise, the confirmation added a new level of reality to the situation and reaffirmed our choice to focus on quality of life and making the most of our time together. I've been reading a helpful, pragmatic book called "The art of dying well" by Katie Butler. Helpful for those aged 50 and up. "The beauty of what remains" by Steve Leader is also supports a present, active dying process. John was very worried about having to go back to work. So after this diagnosis we decided that he could finally retire. Happy retirement cards are welcome.
