John’s Story

Site created on June 6, 2021

After a diagnosis of Afib in January, John realized that he didn’t have the same energy level as he’d had a few month before.  He was unable to ski as aggressively as was typical for him.  He was also getting very winded and short of breath. An X-ray followed by a scan showed cancer in the lung area and liver.  After a biopsy of the liver, they finally determined that he had melanoma.
He did a few rounds of immunotherapy to treat the melanoma but that proved to be ineffective.  As of today June 7th, , John is in UVM Medical Center in Burlington.  They are doing 5 rounds of radiation (2down and 3 to go) to treat a tumor near his spine which has affected his mobility and has caused a lot of pain.  We remain hopeful  that the radiation will help with both the pain and ability to get around.  We all want him to keep fighting and not give up.

John lost his fight with cancer tonight.  We are so sad to lose him but glad that he is no longer in pain.  Thank you to everyone who came from near and far to say goodbye.  He hung on tonight until his brother arrived. Love you John ❤️
