John’s Story

Site created on May 15, 2018

Johnny was in a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident while on his motorcycle on May 12, 2018. We have created this site for all of Johnny’s family and friends as a way to stay up-to-date on his progress in the coming weeks. Please see the Journal entries for further information. THIS IS NOT A DONATION SITE.

Journal entry by Sami Pieknik

Johnny is OFFICIALLY out of the hospital! YAYYYY!

He was released yesterday, August 11th around 1:00pm. We spent time with him in his room before he was released, and packed up his things. His nurses all pitched in to buy Johnny a Superman t-shirt since everyone calls him "Superman!" It was so sweet. All of the staff was sad to see him go, but also very happy he was able to FINALLY get out of the hospital after 3 whole months.

Of course, Johnny couldn't leave without saying bye to his nurses, his physical and occupational therapists, and the nurses and doctors who saved his life in the ICU. He even was able to say goodbye to his favorite nurse, Alec who wasn't even supposed to be working that day!

Johnny's church decorated the front of his home for him when he got home and he absolutely loved it! They placed little hearts everywhere, hearts all over the door with notes on them, and even a giant banner on the garage door. He just lit up seeing and reading all of the messages.

When he got inside, he sat in the living room to see Sonja's new jukebox she got for her birthday. We listened to music and Johnny got to have his favorite soda--Mountain Dew! After our tiny "welcome home" celebration, Johnny decided it was time for a nap. It was quite an exciting, emotional, and exhausting day!

We will continue to keep all of you in the loop with any updates. Thank you all so much for all of your support and kind messages. I am planning on printing out all of the updates and your messages so he can read them when he's ready to do so! We thank you all so much for loving Johnny just as much as we do. He is truly a special person and we are so so happy to have him around for a A LOT LONGER <3
