Ah the clothes... in the days after Jerry died, when everyone had gone back to his or her life, I thought I needed to make a start. I gathered up his ratty workout clothes and took them in a brown paper grocery bag to Hadassah Thrift Shop, who were known to take anything. I got my donation receipt, and as I drove away in the car had to fight the overwhelming impulse to run back in and grab the worn and faded shorts and T-shirts and take them home again. It's a process, as they say. You get better at it. You will mark the day when joy, real joy untinged by sadness, returns. Such is the way of grief. Sending love and support, Pam

Julie,
Reading your words and John's--so honest, intimate, real--fill my heart with your presence. I will sit with you tonight, drinking a cup of "lemon lift" tea, and lighting my prayer candle for you and yours. Good night. I love the courageous and beautiful woman you are. Jeanie

Thanks for sharing, as always, dear friend. You certainly have a way with words, as did John. You have both been a blessing and inspiration in my life. Love and hugs you and your family. Love the photos! When John died, I went back and looked at Elie's talk. She is a wonderful young woman who also has a way with words and can paint a vivid picture of what is actually happening to real people on the other side of the world. What they are experiencing makes our lives seem safe and secure, regardless of what we may think.
I hope I can come to Kansas for the memorial service, but if I can't I will be there in spirit.
