John’s Story

Site created on May 22, 2019

I'm a combat disabled US Marine. I served in the 22nd MAU 83-84, Grenada and Beirut. I was hit by a mortar that left me without the use of my right arm and hand and with massive health issues and PTSD.  I'm struggling with my weight as I'm a diabetic with high blood pressure induced by stressful situations. I'm trying to move to Texas for my health, as the shrapnel hurtsless than it does in cold, rainy Oregon. And Oregon hates veterans and that is stressful trying to hide my disabilities from "people" who hate me for no other reason than being a disabled veteran.
I'm looking for ways to manage all this and maintain good mental health at the same time.
God Bless

Journal entry by John Erickson

Cold and raining hard. Not very conducive for a walk, let alone a disabled veterans health.
I can't stand to live here knowing there is a place where not only will it alleviate a lot of my physical problems, but will send my soul soaring skyward towards happiness. That place is Texas. South Texas in particular. Anywhere within 200 miles of Victoria Texas would be ideal. There are people there that want me there. There are people there that actually love veterans.
God bless
