“My doctor said this doesn’t sound like me,” John said as he relayed the results of some blood work he just had done.  His white blood cell counts were extremely low, but in true “John Brown” fashion, he told family members not to worry, even though he was concerned.

 

“They’re going to have to do another test.”

 

On April 19th doctors admitted John to Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus after a second blood test showed further decline in white blood cell count.  After hours of tests, including a bone marrow biopsy, doctors came back with the news that John and his family had feared.  He had been diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL). 

 

John has already undergone days of treatments; he is a champ and hasn’t complained once.  His goal of remission is strong as he fiercely faces this life challenge with his loving wife and loved ones by his side.

 

John and his family are encouraged by the empathic doctors who have communicated on multiple occasions that APL is treatable and curable.  

 

John is surrounded by the love of family and friends.  His faith in God is strong.  He has many people praying for him at Divine Word, his home church in Kirtland, and beyond.
