My memories of Joel

I knew Joel for over 25 years.
He was my friend.
Joel was the best of us.
He was: spiritual, religious. I had many conversations with him about
our faith and church.
He even tried to recruit me to St. Albert’s after we left St. Mark’s.

Joel was ever:
Friendly, trustworthy, loyal.
Joel loved his family… a lot !
We all knew that because he talked about all of them often and we knew
That he loved to spend time with all of them:
MaryBeth, Andrew, Madelyn and Margaret….baby Margaret !
And he was so proud of all of them. He would brag of course, but not too much.

Joel always pitched in. He recognized when someone needed help and he did it !
He was there!
Many instances I noticed that: St. Mark’s events in the gym, the festival, games, etc.
At St. Albert’s helping with the fish fry….he even recruited me to help !
As the manager of the softball team he did a great job, but after he was done, I remember him
often coming up to me dragging the bat bag and offering to help.

Joel showed up !
He was always there for us. All of us. Even if it was an event that he didn’t particularly like or was a main player…he showed up !
Of course, most especially if it involved a drink or two.
We had many beers together.

Joel was man !
Even if he wasn’t the best at the sport or activity, he still embraced it with gusto!
He was always positive, cheerful, upbeat and friendly.
You always felt better with Joel around.
I’m going to miss him.

But when I look up at the stars, I will see him smiling that big smile right back at me.

Mary Beth, Andrew, Madeline, and Margaret, We are heartbroken to hear about Joel's passing. We walk past your house every day and think about all of you and look in the window to see if you're home. It was always a pleasure to run into Joel. He always had time to chat and he was unfailingly friendly and funny. We will cherish the memories of St. Mark's days together as our kids were growing up. All our best wishes in a difficult time. We will keep you in our prayers, Kate and Shaun

Nora passed along this sad news. We are so sorry for your loss. Joel's smile always lit up the soccer field or the room.
