Journal entry by Chase Dwelle

It is with the greatest sorrow that I report the death of JoEllen Schneider, July 6, 2022, after a 14-month battle with cancer. She died peacefully in her home, overlooking a verdant backyard that was refreshed by a downpour of rain in the morning. She was attended by her husband Ron, her daughter Auna, and her son Chase. She will be missed by her mother Anne, her brothers Art and Barry, and her sister Jenny, as well as by thousands of friends who admired and loved her.

Although her life was cut far too short, she was able to have a death of her choosing. We are grateful we could deliver that final gift for her and thank all of you for making that possible. If you left a message or voicemail they were relayed to her and we appreciate the showing of love and support.

We request no flowers or food—donations in her memory will be welcomed at Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids, the Lacks Cancer Center (select Lacks Cancer Center for the "Designation"), and the Bluebird Cancer Retreat of Holland.

It was her wish to have no funeral—instead, we will arrange for a memorial service later in the year. We will post updates here when more information is available.
