Journal entry by Nate Milstead —
To try to keep everyone up to date I'm starting a group text for my dad. They currently have him intubated and sedated so they can keep him cooperative during tests. They did the lumbar puncture and mri yesterday, both of which came back relatively inconclusive but eliminated the possibility of bacterial encephalitis with reasonable certainty. The neurologist believes that it is autoimmune encephalitis but is not 100 percent certain. They are going to be treating him for it though. They are beginning with a series of steroids and going to do plasmapheresis. Before they can begin plasmapheresis they need to do preliminary lab work to eliminate the possibility of viral infection. Right now he is in regular icu. They are waiting for a bed to open up so they can move him to the neurological icu
