Joan’s Story

Site created on September 21, 2018

Hi to all of my mom's (Joan Downs) friends and family.  We thought we would share with you that mom's lungs are failing and we have started home hospice to help dad care for her and ensure the best quality of life and care that remains.  Mom has become very tired and weak over the last 6 - 8 weeks.  We were all hopeful that with the use of oxygen 24/7 and a new medicine to help her little 80 pound body gain some weight that she could regain some strength but her lungs are proving to be too tired.  Us girls (Jamie (myself), Anna and Molly are taking turns going to AZ to spend time with her and give dad a little break.  The nursing team started last week and the hospice team has moved in and taken over very quickly with providing much needed medicine to ensure better comfort for her during this time.  Mom is in good spirits and if any of you would like to send notes please do here as we will make sure we read all entries to her.  If you wold like to send cards or well wished in writing you can send them to me - Jamie Voyen/Joan Downs

We will update you as much as possible but for now please send hugs, prayers, love and strength towards mom and dad!

Journal entry by Jamie Voyen

Mom walked into the Lords arms about 3 am this morning.  We were all surrounding her with love, holding her hand and telling her how much we loved her.  Mom went very peacefully!  We know she is being held tightly by the Lord and her parents.  We know she will be watching down on us and smiling.  Her spirit will never be forgotten even though we are going to miss her here on earth.  We know her struggling and pain is gone.

We will keep you updated on a memorial service when we have that arranged.

Thank you all for your love, hugs, prayers and support.
