Newest Update

Journal entry by Christy Garver

For many of you, I am sure the last few days have blasted you with snow, wind, freezing rain and all the joys of winter in the north.  Our youngest son has said, "the lizard is here" (apparently he hasn't mastered his beginning sounds yet).  I hope all are safe and warm!

Dad has had some ups and downs over the last few months.  As to be expected, Dad did have COVID this past month, as well as Mom.  As many of you know, Dad would struggle when he would get congestion in his chest because of his compromised lungs which was exactly how his experience with COVID panned out.  He developed pneumonia and needed various antibiotics and breathing treatments to help him beat the virus.  Thankfully, he now seems to be on the mend.

On the flip side, we were able to get Dad home at Christmas to spend time watching his grandsons play with their presents and open some of his gifts.  Throughout our visit, we were able to get Dad home four times which far surpassed our goal.  We are slowly figuring out how it is best to maneuver him and get him from point A to point B through our trial and error periods.  We look forward to refining the process so that when we travel to Mom and Dad's, we can become more seamless when he comes home for visits.

Dad continues to work on walking as often as he has two people there to support him on each side.  Some days he walks as many as 500 feet where others he is wobbly and not able to maintain his stability.  He also continues to work on gaining Independence with daily tasks but he still needs constant support to engage in daily functions.  His weight has also maintained a more suitable number for him to have strength.  He does well with eating (minus a few weeks with his COVID diagnosis) which we know he needs in order to make progress.

As always, thank you for the constant thoughts and prayers!

Much Love,
Christy
