It's dad's 70th birthday today - 534 days after getting his lung transplant!
He's been doing great! Working out 3 days a week getting stronger, improved cardio and mobility. Super thankful to Marcus at Northbound Training and his expertise in functional fitness to help mom, dad and myself with all of our special training needs!
The best part...for me at least...is that dad has been able to get back to doing more activities like helping to cut down the crab apple trees in my back yard, plant a new apple tree, till up a new area for raspberry plants and is currently working on a retaining wall with Jason. Seriously impressed with how far he has come!
In bummer news, mom tested positive for COVID this week. She's having symptoms and says it feels like a very bad cold. She's been isolating in the bedroom that has an attached bath. Luckily dad had a two rounds of a special shot that helps those who are immunocompromised and it seems to be working so far. He doesn't have any symptoms, COVID test is negative and has alerted his care team in case he starts experiencing symptoms.
This decade for dad has been quite eventful! He retired, has been blessed with six grandbabies, had influenza that set him back for 3 months, had double pneumonia and sepsis that almost took him from us, moved to be closer to the transplant center and family, got a lung transplant and is now figuring out what his new normal looks like.
Here's to the next decade dad of living large! As always we pray daily for the family who lost a loved one so our could live. Recognizing dad's birthday means another family does not get to celebrate with someone else. We are truly blessed and grateful everyday to have him here with us.
