Jim’s Story

Site created on August 15, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

On Monday, August 5, Jim suffered an aortic dissection that caused a massive stroke. Miraculously, he survived the rupture and persevered through two  surgeries to repair his aorta and to relieve pressure on his brain. Since then, he has been healing in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at INOVA Cardiac and Vascular Institute. We are all grateful for his miraculous survival and look forward to his 110% recovery.  Even now as he heals, he is working hard to communicate with his wife and three daughters.
All those who know Jim know he trusts the Lord. Your prayers in agreement for complete recovery mean the world to us. If you would like to know about other ways to help, leave well wishes or tributes, please navigate to those pages on this site. We will try and keep everyone updated as this journey unfolds.

We appreciate your prayers and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Carolyn Moreland

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.
We have high expectations for 2020 for Jim's recovery and for our family.
He is healing great from the crainioplasty in November. He had the staples removed and a CT scan. There is another follow-up in January.
Jim moved on Dec 21st from Dulles H&R to Mount Vernon Healthcare Center on 'Tis Well Drive in Alexandria. He is in room 215.
Milestones we are looking forward to seeing the first quarter of 2020:
1. Smiling!😊
2. Speaking!
3. Relief from contracture of his R hand and foot.
4. Sitting up on his own!
5. Great haircut and shave!
6. Gaining weight and muscle!
He has already gained a pound since arriving at Mt. Vernon and is up to 156 lbs.
He can communicate some by shaking his head. When we were there on New Years, Liv turned the Twilight Zone Marathon on for him. It was kind of noisy and I asked him if he wanted me to turn it off. He shook his head, "No".
Thank You Everyone for your continued prayers and for visiting Jim. He knows you are there!😍
