Jim’s Story

Site created on November 5, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

After having trouble swallowing, Jim was scheduled for an endoscopy and colonoscopy.  On October 19th, a routine endoscopy/colonoscopy resulted in some esophageal bleeding. Concerned about the blood loss and his underlying anemia, the team called an ambulance. Jim was transported to Swedish (First Hill) ER and was admitted to the hospital. During this hospital stay,  Jim was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. This turn of events caught all of us off guard-especially the late stage of the cancer. We appreciate your thoughts, prayers and support.

Journal entry by Joe Legaz

First off, we want to thank you all for the thoughts, prayers, kind words and support you have provided over the last week. It is a comfort to know we have such a strong community of support to help us get through this hard time.

We wanted to inform everyone that we have set dates and times for a Rosary, Funeral Mass and Cemetery. Below are the details:

Rosary: 7pm May 5th at Harvey Funeral Home in Fremont
Funeral Mass: 11:15am on May 6th at St. Anne's Catholic Church on Queen Anne
Cemetery: 1:30pm on May 6th at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline

Due to COVID-19 there are limitations on the number of guests for each and are required to enforce capacity protocols, which include an official registration list. If you would like to attend any or all of these events registration is required!

To register please email JimLegazFriendsAndFamily@gmail.com. To help us with the planning, please try to register by no later than Wednesday April 28th.  When you register be sure to include the names of each person that plans on attending as well as each event they plan to attend. For example:

John Doe (Funeral, Rosary, Cemetery)
Jane Doe (Funeral, Cemetery)
Joe Doe (Funeral)

Note:  The capacity is far more limited for the Rosary and Cemetery than the funeral. If you want to attend please register, but understand that we may not have room to accommodate everyone.

Final Note: For those that are unable or choose not to attend the funeral, it will be live streamed via St. Anne's Catholic Parish Facebook & YouTube Pages.

If you have any questions please send them to JimLegazFriendsAndFamily@gmail.com and one of us will reply.

Thank you!

Joe & Gina
