Journal entry by Marissa Iverson

It’s with heavy hearts that we share with you all today that Jim lost his battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. This morning around 7:00 AM Jim passed peacefully at home with family surrounding him.

Jim’s battle took a drastic turn yesterday that none of us were expecting to happen so soon or drastically. As we all continued through our days of helping Jim as his weakness grew and cognitive changes occurred, we knew he was still fighting. Yesterday there was a change in responding, an unwillingness to take his meds, and other physical changes. A visit from our hospice nurse gave us a sobering reality check that we were most likely within 24 hours of him passing.

As the day and night continued to progress, it became more and more clear that we were closer than any of us had thought to Jim leaving us and entering the Lord’s arms.

The night turned into all of us being around him, sharing stories, laughing, crying, and reassuring him (and us all) that we will be OK.

As saddened as we all are and we know a lot of healing will need to happen, we are brought comfort from knowing that Jim is now in the Lord’s arms. We are comforted by the fact that Jim was a fervent believer and servant to our Lord. We know he is no longer suffering, he no longer has to fight, and can now truly be free from any earthly ailments. The trust in our Lord and the promise He has given us, brings us all comfort. It doesn’t take away the pain, but we know and trust that things will get easier.

For myself especially, and all of us, there is a lot of healing that needs to be done with all this year has dealt us. But we trust in the Lord, lean on Him and each other, and continue to trust that we will all be stronger because of it all.

Thank you to everyone for your prayers, for those who reached out, those who brought  food or gifts, and those who followed us through this battle. Our family can’t thank you all enough for your love and support throughout this difficult time.

With Love,
Marissa
