I came across a quote today that reminds me of your family: “ Thankfulness is more than a reaction to receiving what we desire. It’s a tonic against disillusionment and bitterness. In the midst of the Apostle Paul’s trials he knew where the strength to keep going came from. And that resolution was forged in the fires of gratitude. “ What an inspiration you are to all of us!

She is amazing and it sounds as if her Doctors are too. It would be very hard to believe that her parents didn't have a lot to do with that! Thanks so much for the update! I will continue to pray for all of you!

My daughter -in-law-Heidi Anderson-Dosier-shared Jewels story with us and we have added her to our prayer list. You asked for some ideas to help her. I worked with kids for 25 years and thought I could share a few things that might help
.A safe way to sled-( not knowing her limitations but this might work) I googled sleds for handicap kids and some fun looking sleds come up. You could strap her in the sled with a helmet and pad the sides with towels and THE PARENT pull her on flat ground-controlled of course but that way she could be outside and have some fun with the other kids. My husband and I worked with the organization called Eagle Mount when they had a chapter in Missoula. I believe Eagle Mount (an organization that services Handicapped kids and adults. Their goal is to adapt recreational activities for handicapped individuals) is still active in Bozeman and you could contact them for a suggestion on a safe sled to pull her in. I just googled it and here is the contact info for Eagle Mount- They might have other suggestion that would be helpful for you.

Couple other ideas for Jewel. Games-which will help rebuild the social skills. Puzzles for rebuilding brain pathways of small motor .A small loom for weaving -developing eye hand coordination. Beading, also great for eye hand coordination and small motor development. I would start with using pipe cleaners for this then graduate to some type of cotton lanyard. Michaels is a great source for this. Play dough to help develop hand dexterity, strength and creativity, can use letter cookie cutters to relearn alphabet and write words. Sculpty clay to make her own beads and small creatures. This dries out so your creation can be kept. The colors are wonderful. Michaels carries this also.
Hope this helps. Anne Dosier
