Jessica’s Story

Site created on July 16, 2021

On June 12th my cancer journey began -
I was sent to the hospital to have surgery to remove a 6cm tumor from my pelvic region. During surgery, my surgeon found a second tumor in my small intestine that he removed as well as my lymphnodes where it had spread. After surgery, I had a six-week recovery that I was anxious to be over so I could go back to my every day life. Little did I know that that surgery was just the beginning.

A week after surgery, at my first post-surgery appointment, my surgeon told me I had cancer. However, due to the tumors location and not being
attached to anything and after tests ran at the hospital, they couldn't determine what type of cancer I had. They sent my tumors to a pathologist in Miami who ran multiple tests. However, it took two weeks for the pathologist to analyze the unusual tumors, which was the hardest two weeks by far. The waiting and the unknown was emotional and challenging, but also pushed me to find ways to stay positive and remain strong. After two weeks, the pathology report came back and I was diagnosed with stage 3 Liposarcoma Cancer.

As my world started to change, I found myself stronger and more positive than ever knowing I have to make it through this. I am beyond blessed for the two oncologists who have ensured me that my treatment plan will hopefully "cure" me. I will be beginning AIM chemotherapy on August 9th and continue treatment into December. Praying in the new year I will be able to say "I am Cancer-free"!
