Journal entry by Jessica Kempker

Against Sean's wishes, I decided we needed to get to our business in Canada and get it open and ready while we wait for an appointment in Iowa City, so on May 13th, we took off from Dunkterton and made our way North.  Our camp is more than an hour by boat from where we park our vehicles so we are very remote, we turn a generator on in the evenings to check our email or make phone calls when we can.  I had my mom and my Aunt checking multiple times a day for an opening in Iowa City, checking my voicemails, when finally the call came, they had an opening on Tuesday May 22nd or Friday May 25th, Sean and I in unison said "TUESDAY" and just like that Hank and I were on our way back to the states.  Sean wanted to come back with us so badly, but I wouldn't let him, I told him he had to stay to run the business...  😢

My Mom, my Aunt Mary, Hank, and I went to our first of many appointments at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Tuesday May 22nd, so much information to take in, my diagnosis, a level 3 (fastest growing cancer), triple negative breast cancer, so here I am with a fast growing, quick spreading, aggressive breast cancer...  What now?  My oncologist and surgeon decided that Chemotherapy would be the best course of treatment to start, should they remove the now 3 tumors (not 1 anymore) and happen to not get everything it's so likely it could spread to other parts of my body.

On Friday May 25th 2018 I started my first of 8 chemo treatments, it was a long exhausting day.  We made it about halfway home to my mother's house in Fort Madison Iowa before I made her pull over to get an anti nausea med out of the back...  It was a rough evening, I only threw up once! 😝 I'm proud of the that 😉
