Journal entry by Jessica Gillis

Praise God!! Arabella is 32 weeks (gestational age) today and she is doing amazing! Only God’s Mighty and Sovereign hand can explain how far she’s come in the past 7 weeks. Not to mention the incredible corner she has turned in the short 19 days since Arabella was rushed into surgery after discovering a life threatening condition in her bowels.

Her surgical site is healing beautifully and despite having more than half of her bowels removed, she is 3 pounds of tiny sass and mightiness!!

After a month of being in the acute intensive care area of the NICU, they finally moved us to a private room in the long term pod for “stable” babies. We’ve known all along that God has been in control but to be moved to her new bed was a sweet confirmation that the Drs now know what we’ve had faith in all along. God is so good and so faithful 🙌🏻🙌🏻

She had her first bath with soap and water yesterday and loved being in the water, just like her older brothers. We are waiting for her surgeon to give her the thumbs up to be able to start hydrotherapy this week. We are also working with the physical therapist to strengthen her long bones. I think it’s beginning to back fire because she’s showing off by moving her head all around; she’s even escaped from her therapeutic pillow and was found moving around her isolette.

Since her surgery on July 1st, she has progressed from being intubated, to being on a CPAP, to the less invasive OptiFlow that she is on now. We love the OptiFlow because we can finally see her sweet little face and she opens her gorgeous eyes and looks around so often now! She tracks voices and I even saw a little smile when I started talking to her today ❤️💕

She had an eye test last week and everything looked great. Her vessels are very small but that’s to be expected with her age and size. They will use that as a baseline and keep checking every couple of weeks to make sure everything is developing as expected.

By the grace of God each and every brain scan they have performed has come back completely clear of any bleeds. 🙌🏻 That in itself is a miracle since she is a micro-preemie.

Her PICC line was removed today so now she is IV free and can start wearing her preemie clothes 😊😊 Be prepared for many more pictures of our little warrior princess!!
