Jesseca’s ventilation tube was removed as a trial to see if she is able to breathe on her own. She is showing signs of breathing on her own, and if she continues to show she is strong enough to breath on her own, the doctors will decide later this afternoon whether or not to remove the tube completely or not.
She is responding better to commands, however continues to remain unconscious. When the nurse asked, “Jesseca, are you in any pain? If so, squeeze my hand”. Jesseca immediately squeezed the nurses hand hard. We feel like this is the first step to her being able to communicate with us since the accident.
The doctors are also backing off her sedatives to see if we can get more interactions with her. This will all be decided later this afternoon.
