Journal entry by Katie McDaniel —
Hello Everyone,
Sorry it's been so long since there has been an update. Dad is doing wonderfully! He's staying home with the exception of an occasional drive to the Starbucks drive-through with mom, or when he has to go into the hospital for labs or biopsies. All of his biopsies have come back with no rejection at all, which is almost unheard of, but absolutely wonderful. Whenever he does leave the house he is wearing a mask and making sure he's careful.
Because of the virus, and at the recommendation of one of his transplant doctors, they have cancelled all in home therapies that he was receiving to reduce the risk of someone spreading CoVID to him. He was previously having occupational, speech, and physical therapies in home a couple times a week. Since those have been cancelled, Patrick and I have been going over there and taking Dad for walks outside everyday.
To give you an idea of his progress, when he came home he was walking pretty slowly with a walker and not able to go up any stairs. He has gone from that to walking with a cane, to now walking completely unassisted. He can get around the house all on his own! He is also able to walk up 7-8 stairs by himself too. He's working hard to stay moving and get stronger and he's doing great. He has been keeping himself busy working on his books, lifting hand weights, watching mom's reality TV and even unloading the dishwasher!
We can't thank you all enough for your continued support while dad gets better and stronger. Hopefully here soon when things return to normal he can get out of the house and see some of his friends and his wonderful support network!
Thanks,
Katie
