Journal entry by Megan Portnoy

Jerome had his second treatment on the 20th. It was a long day sitting in the chair, but he was a champ. He says he feels really full after the treatment, which I can only imagine after watching the fluids that they administer. Again the day of treatment and the day after were good, but then this treatment definitely kicked his butt. He had a lot of fatigue and GI issues which the oncologist told us can be common with the chemo. Even through it, he managed to put a smile on his face (at least for a little bit) as we celebrated Christmas and our wedding anniversary. He felt bad that he didn't feel good for those days, but I told him as long as we got to celebrate together that's the only thing that mattered.

Over the last few weeks, he has been having some pain in his left side and continued decreased mobility, so he saw the radiation oncologist. The doctor suggested doing another round of radiation, which consists of 10 treatments, on that side to help with the pain and increase his mobility. He starts those on the 2nd (he was going to start earlier but with the side effects of the treatment and the holidays, they were moved to after the New Year). We have been having to rent a wheelchair adaptive van for appointments so we are hopeful these treatments will allow his mobility to improve and his pain to decrease allowing him to complete daily tasks more independently.

As we end this year, we have been reflecting on the past year and are truly grateful to everyone for all of the encouragement and love that you have shown us. We appreciate all of the thoughts, prayers, cards, pictures, calls, texts, food, and visitors that have been received over the past couple months. They really do lift our spirits and help Jerome through the tough days. We would also like to give a special thanks to the Keith Clark Band and all of those that attended the benefit and those that have donated. Your support means the world to us. We humbly ask for continued prayers through the new year of healing and strength for Jerome and wish everyone a Happy New Year.
