Jen’s Story

Site created on December 10, 2020

In August of 2020 I was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect known as a myocardial bridge. on December 16th, I will be having open heart surgery to repair it. I will spend about 5-6 days in the hospital, 6-8 weeks recovering, and several months undergoing cardiac rehab to get things working again. I am surrounded by an amazing family and communities of people who have been so supportive! the first journal entry is a long, detailed story of what happened and my journey to get here. Thank you for caring about me!

Journal entry by Jen Schwartz

It's been a rough day today, lots of pain (it's getting more accute and less general) and nausea, and I'm having a hard time getting to sleep. I don't like the feeling of the pain meds, but also really need them.

The visiting nurses have been wonderful, and tomorrow I start physical therapy (in home) which should be interesting. I have a long road to travel and I know there will be ups and downs! I'm grateful for Christmas as a big distraction!
