Jeff’s Story

Site created on January 10, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website.  We are using it to keep friends and family updated in one place. Jeff suffered two devastating strokes on December 28th, 2018 and has been in hospital care ever since in Davenport. His brain stem was damaged (a very rare location) and largely controlled his sleep/wake cycles, so now he is in a near-constant state of sleepiness and can only open his eyes for a few seconds at a time. However, during those times of alertness he can verbally and physically respond to commands, although sporadically. His motor functions have been positively assessed and he is strong.  We are hopeful for his recovery and are in the process of moving him to a rehab facility. Your prayers are greatly appreciated, thank you for visiting our site!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Samantha Lyle

Quick update on my dad- He has officially been moved to ManorCare in Bettendorf and is in room 227. We think that he would greatly benefit from visitors- he enjoys singing/listening to music or being read to!! This past week Physical Therapy had him walking on parallel bars for ten minutes, and a few days ago he had sat and cycled with his arms and legs for another ten minutes, however all with his eyes closed. Please pray for his eyes-being able to open them and remain awake for longer periods of time (which we have seen improvement in) is to be a crucial part of his recovery.
