Jeff’s Story

Site created on May 15, 2018

Dear Friends & Family,

On Wednesday May 23rd I'm scheduled to have a benign tumor (adenoma) removed from my pituitary gland. (Unbelievable how many times I've written that word and I still can't spell it right the first time! :) It turns out these are relatively common.
I have a Caring Bridge website  where you can post any messages for us:  caringbridge.org/visit/jeffcunningham2 (https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jeffcunningham2)
Please ignore the fundraising plea when you first visit the site, unless you’re so inclined.

On the website, in the Ways to Help section, there a a couple of links if you want to learn more about the adenoma.
The surgery will be done at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.  It’s a relatively straightforward surgery and I should just be in the hospital overnight, if no complications. I'm looking forward  to getting it removed and behind me but also to experiencing health care at Mayo.

If you'd like to help, your prayers and thoughts during the next few days will be much appreciated.
I've seen the power of prayer in more serious medical situations experienced by others and truly believe in the words on a plaque
I saw in an intensive care ward, "Prayer Changes Things."

Thanks
Jeff (and Cathy)

Journal entry by Jeff Cunningham

Feeling better every day and ready to leave MN tomorrow to drive back to Urbana.
Cathy and I went out to dinner tonight (photo) with her stepmom Barbara Rossow, whose birthday was yesterday and has hosted us in her home since we were discharged from Mayo. It’s been very relaxing and reassuring to be staying only an hour away from Mayo for a few days after surgery.

Mayo Clinic and hospital is an amazing place and the Mayo brothers created an ethic and organization that we feel very blessed to have been able to come to for surgery. I posted a few photos from their museum here. When I go back for a checkup in 3 months I plan to spend a few hours there.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and being there with us in spirit as we got through this.
