Journal entry by Jennifer Smith —
It has been a while since I’ve updated this site to let you know how Mom is doing, and many of you have been asking. Mom has been feeling pretty good lately. She’s just a little weaker than usual and has some pretty significant back pain (unrelated to the leukemia) that limits her activity. Weekly home health blood draws, daily picc-line flushes, etc has become the “new norm” but they are handling it well.
We appreciate all of you who are continuously telling us that you’re praying for Mom. The prayers are definitely felt! We need all of you prayer warriors to please lift her name a little extra this week and in the weeks to come. It’s chemo week, which means that she has to go to Jackson every day this week for infusions. It’s not at the actual hospital but is at the University Medical Mall which means there should be no one there who is “sick.” They are heavily screening them (temp, symptoms check, travel questions) before they’ll even let them into the building, so I’m praying that she is entering a safe environment. Please pray a hedge of protection around both of my parents as they travel this week. Daddy will remain in the car (facility rules), and the precious souls who are continuing to provide medical care will take care of Mom from the time she leaves the car until they put her back in the car to return home. Every precaution is being taken, but an added layer of prayer would be wonderful! Also, please pray with us that this medication continues to control “the bad stuff” but that “the good stuff”/her immune system rebuilds quickly in order to help her stay well!
I pray that all of you are well and taking the necessary precautions in light of the Covid-19 threat. And I’m praying that these scary times come to an end very, very soon!
