Journal entry by Kathy Rulland

Happy Friday Everyone!
Wanted to let you all know the latest happenings with Jeanne. Since being discharged from Mayo on 8/8. Since coming home, Jeanne has had some challenges. She has not felt well at all. Jeanne is still having some extreme fatigue, some tunnel vision and worse than normal short term memory issues.  Life has been confusing, stressful and full of challenges and medications. She has had to continue oral antibiotics for C-Diff and IV antibiotics for the meningitis.

Landi took her to a follow up visit with her infectious disease doctors at Mayo on 8/17. Because of her worsening and vision issues, it was decided to again admit her to the hospital. They did another lumbar puncture, a CT scan and MRI of her brain and some blood work. Everything came back looking great! The meningitis in her brain is all cleared up! They feel that the difficulties she is having now are due to the weakness and fatigue that the two infections have caused. Although the infections are gone, her body now must recover the rest of the way. The doctors feel that over time, she will slowly gain her strength back and that will help her to feel less tired. Once she feels less tired her memory issues and her tunnel vision should improve as well. While her memory and vision may never be as they were prior to her brain surgery in January, she will again get back to feeling more like her old self in the near future.

Thank you for all of the love and support you have shown Jeanne during these past several months. Our whole family is so very appreciative.
