On Wednesday, March 21st, my mom was not expected to live. Early Wednesday morning, I (Cassie-Jean's Daughter) found my mom in and out of consciousness  on her bathroom floor. I woke up my brother, Caden, and we drove her to the ER in Sioux Falls. The doctors ran a lot of tests and, at first, all they could tell us that she was very sick. She was admitted into the Critical Care Unit. My mom's blood pressure was extremely low and they had her maxed out on medication. She was having trouble breathing so they put her on a ventilator. We were then told that she had had a kidney stone blocking her ureter due to a Urinary Tract Infection. This caused her system to back up and create infection. Her body became infected with E. Coli and she was in septic shock. In attempt to clear the infection, she had surgery that night, where a stent was inserted; yet, late Wednesday night, my family and I were told that there was nothing else they could do for her and that we should say our goodbyes. My mom managed to push through until Thursday but she was still in critical condition. She was at a  great risk of kidney failure. The doctors had to hook her up to a large dialysis machine which worked as her kidneys 24/7. All we could do for her was hope and pray.

I am so thankful to say that it has been over a week since she was admitted and is doing so much better. My mom is no longer in the Critical Care Unit! She is off the ventilator and no longer connected to any IV  medications. Her kidneys are almost functioning normally; therefore, the dialysis machine is not used all the time. She will have to have a few dialysis treatments during her stay but they will only last three hours at a time vs. 24/7! She has been talking up a storm and cannot wait to get out of the hospital. She still has a long journey ahead of her. My mom will be staying in the hospital for another week and a half or so and be transferred to either a specialty hospital or an assisted living facility for a month or so! Although the journey is long, we are so thankful that she has lived to tell it. Continued prayers would be appreciated.

Thank you and God bless!
