Journal

I've read that the days after a memorial service are more difficult than those preceding.  There are no more details, errands or distractions from the stark reality of loss.  After a day of reflection, I can attest to this truth.

It dawned on me today that I will no longer get to visit her on my way to a monthly board meeting next Tuesday.  I did this before and after her stroke, but it evolved into a time when I could be with her before she had dinner at Gardens on Quail.  The last such visit, she smiled and said "Yay" when I walked into her room.  Thank God for this memory.

I miss my Mom terribly, but remain steadfast in my faith of plan, mercy and grace.

I could not have asked for a more beautiful day or better service to see her away on October 3.  I am so grateful to all involved; from the staff at Gardens on Quail and Tru Community Care, to everyone who helped organize services, to Pastor Bill Merritt, to Amy, to my Cousins who stood with me, to my entire family, and most especially Misti who has been a source of great strength.

To all my colleagues from my office and the courts I serve, your thoughts, cards, concern and attendance touched me deeply.  Thank you.

To all who visited my Mom, who sent emails and cards, made her quilt or put a positive sign on her door at Gardens on Quail, prayed or held a good thought for her, and to everyone who visited Caring Bridge for an update, thank you.

I am a private person, thrifty with points of contact.  But for anyone reading this post, please do not hesitate to contact me for any updates about my Dad and family, or just to say hello.  I remain grateful to you all.

Best,
