Jason’s Story

Site created on August 31, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. Jason is struggling with a debilitating neurological mystery disorder. He has gone from walking normally and feeling fine in, May 2018, to now, September 2018, only able to walk very short distances with the aid of a walker. Over the past few months of summer Jason has endured several muscle tests, 2 MRIs, a Spinal Tap, so many blood tests, and a round of IV steroids. Towards the end of the month of May Jason started having strange muscle cramps and spasms in his calf muscles. After an urgent care visit in June, he was referred to a neurologist. There have been several almost diagnosis’s that have ultimately came back negative. It has been an emotional rollercoaster, just to land on uncertainty. He is continually losing nerve and muscle function and feeling in his feet and legs. The only things the doctors know for certain is that there appears to be inflammation surrounding the nerves in his back, he has a 2cm mass near his spine, and the doctors have no clue. Our hope lies in the Lord, and we are trusting in Him as a family in the midst of this journey. Thank you to our friends and family for caring and praying with us!

Isaiah 40:31

“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Journal entry by Elizabeth Rodeffer

Sorry I disappeared for a while! Jason has been dealing with tremendous pain since his first IVIG treatment at the hospital (10/20). He had a second course of IVIG at home in November, and finished his 3rd course last week. The Neurologist is still hopeful this will reduce the inflammation, and the pain is temporary, but it has gotten so much worse since his last course of treatment. We’re taking one day at a time and trusting the Lord with each step. Right now the sleep deprivation we are operating under everyday is unreal, but God Is truly carrying us in that. Jason hasn’t seen any real improvement in feeling or walking yet. He was fitted for wheelchair and that improved life a bit. We got out to the mall as a family during a short reprieve from pain, mid December. It was a little rough, but so good to be out together. This Christmas Season has been hard. We have missed a lot of our usual traditions and had to cancel some of our family gatherings. Tonight we are in the hospital for the second time in 3 days trying to get a handle on Jason’s pain.  While I sit here and reflect on the season we are in, I feel so grateful for our family and friends. I am grateful for each day with the man I love, no matter what those days hold. The Lord miraculously provides the energy I need to be Mom and Wife, and I stand amazed by Him. We appreciate all the prayers we can get!
