Journal entry by Anne Marie Curley

Hi to all and Happy holidays,
So it’s been a week and it’s been a lot. Tons of confusion and we were sent home with no experience on how to change Jason’s trach in case it falls out. Pulmonologist wasn’t real happy about that. We also had a backup one sent here but it was not the right size. We just got a backup one today. It’s honestly crazy. Didn’t sleep for the first 3 nights because we were under the assumption that this humidifier that is attached to Jason at night can’t come off, so set an alarm every hour to check on him. After pulmonologist appointment we learned that it’s not dangerous or serious if it comes off so after a couple of days we relaxed and started to getting a bit of sleep plus added a room humidifier tot back us up.  Great respiratory therapist helped us learn about what we needed to know moving forward at home and taught us how to change trach in an emergency. Jason is overall doing well at home. It’s incredible how coming home changes everything, he is already almost ready to walk on his own but we are waiting at least a week before we try. He is back to his normal eating schedule and so now I have to discuss trying to up the amount of food to help him gain back his weight. We are trying to get used to new norm and it’s coming along. Now that Jason isn’t tethered to a machine he has more freedom and that’s better for everyone. I am adding a picture of our sweet Jason happy like usual. Unfortunately our little dog in the background is very sick and we have to put him to sleep. We adopted him at 7yrs old after I believe an elderly persons family had to surrender him so we gave him 6 good years and let me tell you he was one of the best dogs we ever had.
