Journal entry by Darcy Buechler —
I brought Jason home January 20th. My leaky eyes cried tears of joy as I wheeled Jason past the Acute Rehab Center's front desk. The nurses & therapists gathered to say goodbye, & say words of encouragement. Jason was not thrilled to take a picture but he didn't really have a choice.
He is doing great at home! Barely needs any help getting around our house. He's sleeping better/longer than he has in months. His appetite is good. Ryleigh is doing really good at helping her dad "find the right words". Jason's Dad Ed was able to come visit him on Saturday, he hasn't seen him in person since early November. Jason wanted his favorite bacon cheeseburger deep dish pizza from Frankie's on our way home. And fate had 2 of his good friends he had meet through the Inspire Stroke Support Group there to give us big hugs & congrats. I haven't seen Jason smile that big in a really long time, it was so awesome.
Today he had his first follow-up with the Cardiothoracic team from Fairview Southdale. It was good to see Erin & Arielle the PA's who were there for us these past 5 months. They left fingerprints on his heart & we will never forget how awesome they were to work with. They took a picture with us all together for their "wall of success" & to show to the ICU nurses who keep asking them how Jason is doing.
