Jason and Courtney’s Story

Site created on January 23, 2021

Jason tested positive with COVID between Christmas and New Year's. In less than a week he was diagnosed with pneumonia and three days after that he was admitted to the ER at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial. Jason was vented, but later that evening he was flown to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, GA to begin drastic life-saving measures. His medical team has started an ECMO procedure to purify and oxygenate his blood and they continue to use all available to them to save this husband, father, son, friend. We are hurting and uncertain of the days ahead, but we have seen our Father at work and have felt a peace when we shouldn't have. We have witnessed with our own eyes tangible results from specific prayers that leave us speechless with our hands raised and giving praise to the only ONE WORTHY and ABLE! We find overwhelming comfort in every single form of outreach to our family. We covet and crave your prayers as we wait on His mercies each day.

Journal entry by Debra Andrews

There is always a bigger tapestry . . .

There is the thread of an 8 year old son who spent an entire day choosing pictures of he and his daddy, pictures of his daddy and his mommy and pictures that celebrated the love of his family . . . his world.  He carefully placed each photo on poster board to put in his dad's hospital room at OMH.  But the same day the poster went up in Jason's window, it was decided that Jason would be immediately air evacuated to Savannah.

There is the thread of a medical team enroute from Oconee County to Savannah.  Two nurses chosen to accompany him on that flight offered prayers over his weakening body.  And tucked away on that flight was a poster that has been placed in Jason's room in Savannah.

There is the thread of a doctor (Courtney's primary communication source) who has spent two decades committing his life to the science of medicine.  Like many doctors, he is a physician so bent on curing and healing that he has little time to bear the emotional burdens of families.  He saw that poster with family pictures, handwritten notes, and misspelled words created by that 8 year old boy, and he told Courtney that he was reminded that this wasn't just a patient.  This was a father, a husband, a son, and a friend and that he was going home to his own 'courtney' and 'hayden'.  He was reminded of the weightiness of this fight, of the staggering impact of the end results.

Three threads were interwoven by a God who uses every single detail for His glory. A young boy spent an entire day drawing, coloring, and pasting photos to a poster that travelled 300 miles to remind a physician that the essence of the science of medicine is directed SOLELY at saving fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters . . . people . . . who are cherished by someone.

That is the God we serve.  This road is His tapestry and we wait to see the beauty He creates.
