Jan’s Story

Site created on April 22, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Jan. On the morning of March 25th, 2021 Jan suffered a left-sided stroke and is now recovering through rehabilitation therapy.  We are using this site to help keep family and friends updated on her progress as she continues on the journey of healing.  We appreciate your love, support, words of hope and encouragement.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Rachael Mielke

Hello! It has been a little while since I've given an update. Grandma Jan is doing well physically; walking, using steps, and completing most daily life tasks like taking care of personal needs fairly well. She is still working on strengthening her speech and comprehension as well as writing more and more each day.  With continuous therapy, we are hopeful she will continue to improve.

Grandma has agreed to move to Atlanta, GA where Jess is living. This means we are in the process of packing her things and trying to sell the house. Over the last few days (May 27th-30th) we have been working on organizing and packing at grandmas.  This has been an ongoing process that would not have been possible without many of our amazing family and friends that have gone above and beyond helping us. We are so very thankful for you all!

On May 26th grandma was brought home from Good Shepard and has been adjusting well while we've been working at her house. She was very happy to see her buddies, Gryphon and MaryKay, and seems to like being back at home. If you would like to visit with Jan before she leaves (we're thinking the middle of June), please be sure to reach out to Jess. You can call the house number or Jess directly. If you don't have contact info please reach out here and I'll do my best to contact you directly for it. Grandma seems to do the best with smaller groups of people (2-3 people) and mid-morning to mid-afternoon is generally her best time.

We are all still adjusting to this new chapter with Jan and appreciate all the prayers, well wishes, love, and support that are being sent.
