Janet’s Story

Site created on July 11, 2021

My family has always had hard battles to fight.  With this new battle we are facing we could use the support of extended family and friends.

Monday night June 28th we found out that our sweet loving mother Janet Smith has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  On July 14th we found out it was in Stage IV.  It’s been quite a shock to our family and a whirlwind the last two weeks.

She starts her chemo treatments here in a few days.  After years of caring for her family and thousands of mothers and babies including half of the mothers and babies in Silverton, it is her turn to be taken care of.  Being the patient instead of the nurse is a new role for my mother.  Adjusting to that is not an easy thing for any of us.

At this time we ask that no phone calls be sent to my mother.  As the very experienced patient that I (her daughter Jenny)am I know firsthand how overwhelming it can be with several texts and calls of questions asking how I am doing.  My mother needs to use all the energy she has to fight this illness.  If you have any questions please come to this site for information.  A few family members and myself will keep this site updated.

Ways to help support us:

Prayers prayers prayers and more prayers.

Meals delivered — we will be setting up a meal train here soon.

Monetary donation for any medical need which may not be covered by insurance.

Edited to add:
that if you click on the Donate button the donation goes to caring bridge and not Janet Smith.  We will be adding a Go Fund Me account here shortly as soon as this technologically  inept person (myself) figures out how to do so.  Thank you for your patience as we navigate new waters through the storm.

We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

The {Fanciest} Celebration of Life {Ever} will be held:

When:   April 23, 2022
Time:  2:00p.m.
Where:        Immanuel Lutheran
            303 N Church St.
            Silverton, OR 97381

In this day and age when we don’t often get a chance to dress up, Janet often took every chance she could to get dressed to the nines. Janet loved to dress her best for tea parties, cocktails, really any excuse.

In light of this, and in honor of Janet, her family is planning to dress up for her memorial. We invite you to join us in wearing your best cocktail or tea party outfit.   Wear that fancy dress, favorite suit or hat.  The sparkly shoes.  The pinker the better.  {Pink was her favorite color.}

Please know that dressing your finest is not required to come honor Janet. Janet had so much compassion, kindness, and love for everyone from all walks of life.  She would hate it if someone felt they couldn’t come without being fancy. Come as you are and join Janet’s family in celebrating of her life. 💗

If you would like to make a donation to honor Janet and the passion she had for helping mothers to breastfeed and parent their children, a donation can be made to La Leche League Int. in her name. Janet was a long time supporter of LLL and its work to raise up peer support for breastfeeding mothers.

This link will take you to a donation page: https://www.llli.org/donate/

*the service will be live-streamed for those who can’t attend in person*
