Janet’s Story

Site created on July 28, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Matushka Janet Mihalick was diagnosed with Carcinosarcoma Uterine Cancer at the end of June 2020.  After learning her diagnosis she was scheduled for a hysterectomy, but after further testing, they found additional tumors in her abdomen tissue.  Unfortunately, a hysterectomy is no longer an option at this time.

Her Oncologist has recommended  6 treatments of chemotherapy.  The goal is to shrink the tumors in her abdomen. We feel confident in her Doctors and Medical Team and believe they are doing everything they can for her.

She is on a fixed income, and has stepped down as Choir Director at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in McKees Rocks, PA.

Please consider giving a donation to help relieve the financial burden of medical bills, and other items due to her changing needs during this trying time. My hope is that she can spend this time focusing on herself, and towards her recovery.  Please keep her in your prayers.

A Note from her Daughter: My mom has a big heart and has spent much of her life serving others.  She served as Choir Director alongside my father at several parishes in Pennsylvania and New York.  When my father was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis,  she spent years by his side as his primary caregiver.  After he passed away she moved to Pittsburgh to be closer to me, my husband, and daughter.  She has always put others first and now it's time to take care of her.  We are fortunate to live close to each other and we are able help with her daily needs.  But I need your help! Please keep her in your prayers, and consider making a donation.  It would mean the world to me if she could be given peace of mind from her medical bills, and any other needs.  Let's help her Fight Cancer! Thank you all!

I want to thank everyone who has reached out to us during this difficult time! Your texts, emails, calls, letters, and donations have really touched us and we are blown away by your kindness and support.

My mom had her first chemo treatment on Friday July 24th.  She tolerated the chemo, but the side effects kicked in a few days later, and since then she has been very weak.  She has been having fluid buildup in her stomach due to the tumors in her abdomen causing extreme discomfort.  This makes it hard for her to breathe and eat.  She has had her stomach drained several times, which gives her relief for a few days, so we are grateful for that!  Her next chemo treatment has been postponed due to being weak, and she has been asked by her doctor to eat more meals throughout the day with a higher protein content so that she will be strong enough for her next chemo treatment scheduled for Wed August 19th.  We are taking on this challenge!

Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers!
