Janet’s Story

Site created on March 11, 2021

Life rarely goes as planned and 2021 started with a curve ball and new challenge; a breast cancer diagnosis.

A lump found in November initiated a series of mammograms, biopsies and scans that led to an official diagnosis in early February. Two different kinds of cancer; one side positive, positive, negative and slow growing and the other side triple negative which is more aggressive and can only be treated with chemotherapy.

Scans revealed the cancer was present in lymph nodes, but the rest of the body scans were negative. Stage 3.

Janet is being treated at Loyola; Cardinal Bernadine Cancer Center and chemo treatments are at Marjorie Weinberg Cancer Center at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. Chemo began Thursday, March 11th and will continue weekly for 24 weeks, followed by surgery and then radiation.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Janet Abramic

It's been awhile. Just wanted to share a few things...

I purchased some new boobs! I've tried a variety of inserts, but have recently found my favorite...by far.  So, I'll share in case anyone knows someone who has had a mastectomy or might be getting one in the future.

Everyone is different, I'm aware, but these are shaped differently with some added body contour that prevents them from sliding around. The right side is shaped differently than the left...now I realize the benefit. And, they are also super soft.

Anyway...if you have a person who might be looking, direct them to Athleta for their "Empower Mastectomy Bra Insert". They slide into any bra that has a slightly wider removable insert opening.

* In other news...I've had some scans recently which were all negative...so I have orders to get my chemo port removed. I have mixed feelings...I'm a bit attached and sounds ridiculous, but I'm afraid to let go of it because in my head, it's kept me safe.
