I had such a blessed surprise when I saw and visited with Jan in Penney's right after Halloween. She spotted me and was so friendly as she always was, wearing her beautiful smile. We all will miss Jan, her energy, humor, good sense and her witness of Christian faith. My love and blessings go out to the family!

I was very saddened to hear of Jan's unexpected passing. I met Jan when I started work as a preschool teacher in Douglas County Schools. It was my fortune to work closely with Jan, who was truly a master speech pathologist and teacher! Not only did she make a huge difference for the students and families she worked with - but she also made a very large impact on those of us who worked with her. For myself, Jan helped shape me as an educator. She was an important mentor of mine. Throughout all my years as a teacher one simple rule of Jan's has stayed with me: "Just because we have done something in the past does not mean we have to do it now." It sounds pretty simple, but that phrase has guided me for many years and served me well.
I will keep Jan in my heart and remember her for the very smart, charming and loving person that she was to everyone who knew her. I will also remember Jan for her great sense of humor and quick wit! Jan was a good friend and will be greatly missed - but always remembered and loved for the wonderful person she was and for the great impact that she made on those who were lucky enough to get to know her!

Knowing Jan has been such a joy and privilege. She not only became my sister-in-law but also my dear friend. We enjoyed taking trips together, first with both our families and then later, traveling internationally. I am thankful for all the beautiful memories I have of our time together.
