Newest Update

Journal entry by Jane Cummins (Gambill)

Well, we are in the home stretch now… Baby boy will be making his arrival in less than two weeks!

I’ve been super busy with transfusions, infusions, appointments, second opinions and diagnostic testing. A few weeks ago, I had my long overdue lymphatic mapping ultrasound done and two new tumors were found on my thyroid bed as well as new fishy looking lymph nodes on both sides of my neck. That was really hard to hear, as you can imagine.

The second opinion oncologist thinks the tumors on my thyroid bed are either all new growth or residual, microscopic cancer that was left untreated and allowed to grow. Either way, he feels it very likely wouldn’t have happened if my radiation had been carried out as ordered last summer, which really upset us both. To think this could have been avoided is infuriating and heartbreaking. However, here we are… so, onward and upward.

I have a consult tomorrow after my 38 week OB appointment with a new surgeon. There has been some speculation that I might need the central compartment & radical right neck dissections I’ve already had done revised to address the new tumors and right side lymph nodes before we can dig into the left side. I am very much hoping for some clarity on that front after my appointment tomorrow. But I recognize that there are several tests that I haven’t been able to do because of the pregnancy, so decisions might need to wait on that information.
