Jamie VanVolkenburgh has been my best friend ever since we moved in next door, 20 years ago. Jamie is married to Gary & has two children, Jake & Nikki, has a dog named Ozzy & 2 fur babies :)
On July 21, 2021 Jamie wasn’t feeling well, was having pain & vomiting.. Gary took her to ER, only to find out very shortly after that she was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer.
Chemo started around August 1st. The first round went pretty decent, few side effects. After that she went to her first Radiation consult, which was going to start in 2 chemo rounds later.
The second round of chemo came & by the end of the week, Jamie was in the hospital with her sodium levels dangerously low.
Every since then it’s been back & forth in the hospital with little to no chemo, as her body just couldn’t handle it.
Our latest update came this week; as the cancer has spread to her brain. Now my best friend, wonderful wife to Gary, loving mother to her children… has been told her time is very limited.
I started this journal in order to help the family spread the word without having to make 20 calls a day & relive the story & the emotions time & time again on a daily basis.
