Jamie’s Story

Site created on January 21, 2020

Hello, dear friends and family. Thank you for being in my corner!!!   In early December I found lumps in my breast and after a series of tests was diagnosed on December 19, 2019 with B-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.  In God's wisdom and kindness, the timing was Christmas, and so Craig and I had a week to gather with my Gautreau (maiden name!) family in Baton Rouge and then in the Rocky Mountains with our grown children and grandchildren (Hannah, Ben, Sarah, Sergei, Isaiah, Simon, and Milana).

January 2nd began our journey with Texas Oncology in Longview, Texas, and there we find ourselves presently:   In great care and able to be surrounded by family and friends and our local community.

Thank you for walking with us and for following our story here on Caring Bridge!
We love you,
Jamie, for the whole Vanbiber and Gautreau clan

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jamie Vanbiber

Hi, friends,

I posted this video on Youtube on Saturday, so you may have already seen it. If not, welcome to it!

Also, I went to see the Orthopedic doctor today and he put me on ONE crutch instead of two! It's a game changer. I get a free hand to carry things from room to room, it's much easier to motor around, and it's one less big thing to bother with!

He said with the x-ray he can see that the fracture (in the femoral neck of the hip) hasn't gotten worse. You don't actually see healing with an x-ray. That requires a CT or MRI.  Because the fracture has stayed in line, we can assume with 5 weeks of no weight-bearing, it should be healing (something to this effect).

He said the hope is that bearing some weight on the leg will stimulate more healing. I will see him again in 3 weeks and get a CT scan to check for healing.

Craig and I continue to prayerfully figure out what recovery looks like, with quarantine requirements getting looser. I was given clearance for airline travel! We will be flying to see Sarah and Sergei and the kids!!! If only Ben and Hannah could be there. But we'll make a full family trip happen soon.

Prayer needed:

for Jamie:

-daily energy to be restored
-ability for mental concentration
-a normal stomach
-healing of the hip bone
-continued reversal of scleroderma skin and organ tightening

for Craig and Jamie:

-continued processing with the Lord of the valley we've walked/are walking
-that He would be coming to us with His clear, loving presence
-a vibrant time of connecting with our family in Colorado (April 16-22)

for Mom and all the family as we continue to grieve and celebrate and miss Dad.

We love and appreciate you all so very, very much! We pray the Lord's great grace upon your lives, too!

With warm affection,

Jamie
