Newest Update

Journal entry by Charlene Pence

Good morning everyone,

As many of you know now dad had a massive heart attack on Wednesday. I’m going to give a brief overview of what has happened up until now, and I will continue to update as things change. We love everyone and appreciate all of the prayers!

Wednesday morning (01/27) dad woke up around 4:45am having some nausea and saying he thought he had food poisoning. He tried to throw up but couldn’t, so he went back to bed. Mom called me at 5am saying we needed to call 911, I was at their house in under two minutes and dad was collapsed in the bed. I gave mom the phone with the 911 operator on, and got dad on the floor to begin CPR. I continued CPR until the paramedics arrived (13-15 minutes later). They took over and rushed him to the emergency room in Commerece , he had to be shocked a few times on the way over. They got him there and as stable as possible for transport to Greenville ICU, they had to sedate him before leaving because he woke up and was fighting. After arriving in Greenville they spent the day testing and stabilizing him. At 5pm that day Dr. Bel Bel (the cardiologist) came in and told us they were going to take him to the Cath lab to try and put a stent in. Around an hour and a half later they came out and told us it was a success. But they also told us he’s had a heart attack before, but that his symptoms must not have been normal. That being said his artery was open but his heart is still damaged from the past. His heart is working at 20%, and it should be 65% at his age. That means the next course of treatment is a heart transplant. Yes you read that right, and yes we were scared to hear that too.. But our God is bigger!! The fact that they think he’s a good candidate for that is good, and they have him at the top of the transplant list in Dallas. Yesterday (1/28) the goal was to wake him up and see if he has brain function left, which he passed with flying colors!! So that was a huge step. The goal now is to get off the ventilator, which they tried this morning (1/29) but he wasn’t breathing from his chest as much as they like, so he’s sedated again so he can rest. They said this is normal because his body has had a lot of trauma. We know our God is bigger and that He will bring us through this! We believe in supernatural miracles, we know how strong our God is and He’s on our side!

Prayer requests: That he will rest and heal more today. That the next time they try and take him off the ventilator it’ll work flawlessly. That he stays stable throughout today and tomorrow. For peace for mom, she’s having a harder day.

I will try and update when things change! Thank y’all!!
