We have some good news to go with the snag we got yesterday!

Found out Jim’s catheter is working to let fluids in but not out.  So he will going in next Tuesday the 11th to have an x-ray  to verify a clog or if another surgery to have it replaced.   This will then tell us when his actual start date for dialysis will be.  ( it was to be Friday)

Encouraging news:  I got a call from Iowa City Transplant team and am moving to the next step in the donor rotation!   I will be heading to Iowa City on May 25th to chat with the Transplant  team, the surgeon and a psychologist.   I then will
Have a Cat scan, MRI, EKG and more labs completed.  We then wait 2-3 weeks for results and  the results to go in front of the team.  If I pass and need no more tests....there are a few things that can happen
1.  If I am a direct match... we schedule the transplant and could be by the end of July
2. If I am not a direct match, I will have the option to go on the “swap” program.  This means if someone else’s donor  is a direct match for Dad and I for their person we can do it all for the swap! YES  no questions asked is my answer
3. We wait for a match for Dad.

I know some of you have started this process...   would love to hear where you are and your thoughts!

As always... Thank you for all your Love, Support and continued prayers!
Share this who knows whom will see this and would want to try to be a match!

Real quick!  Dad had his 1st two days of education. Yesterday they put in about 1000 ccs of fluid thru his port and had it sit there for a bit and released it and got 2000 cc today and drained it.  Slowing teaching him how to change the dressings, hook up
The port and get his body used to what the new normal will be.  He has 6 more days of this and then will be on his own for full dialysis treatments daily.

Yesterday it wiped him out.  Today he said is a bit better!  One step ata time!

Keep praying, Sharing and sending love to him!

Dad had another crazy y change in plans this morning!  We thought we were going in to start dialysis.   We get there any nope... a 2  hour educational process on what to expect and new diet.  ( To be honest... I am thankful for, as we have a bit more clarity on the process).
Now, the part Dad is less thrilled about... starting Monday.. he gets to spend 2 hours Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday for 2 weeks to learn more, learn how to hook up and they will also put some of the fluid in and make him hold it in for 2 hour and then release it to see how his kidney is actually functioning to see if he will do 8,9 or 10 hours a night.
He will then start full dialysis daily at night at home!      This will help him keep a normal lifestyle!

I am going to write out the process a bit better on a different journal entry.  I am going to try to explain it with the medical terms to help either confuse you or help you understand what he will be tackling !

Dads new Motto:  Take the dogs out, charge cell
Phones and plug Grandpa in for bed!

I am glad he is joking some!

Just when things are looking up... you get hit with a wrecking ball! Slapped right where it hurts.

Dad had labs drawn this morning and was already called back with news that no one wants to hear. I mean we knew this was coming, but it sure does not make it easier.

Dads kidney ( the one and only one he has) is barely hanging on.  He starts dialysis Monday.

I knew it was failing more when he threw up almost everything he eats and has no energy at all
Anymore.  Just was hoping that with the great news earlier this week we had more time before it started to deteriorate this quickly.  He mentally is not in a good place.  I get it, however let’s all rally around him and help give him strength!

Please pray, please share and if you want to see if your a match or know someone that does please go back a few journal entries and see how to do so!!

Pray for Jim!

Just a quick little update:  on April 1st Jim had his dialysis port put in.  We should know in the next couple of weeks when he will start dialysis.

Dad has been very quickly been feeling worse and worse.  He is having trouble eating, as he says he is never hungry so he has to force himself to eat.  When he does eat it all tastes like metal and he has trouble getting the food down and keeping it down.
His energy level has mot been great ( if you know Jim,  this has been his biggest downfall) he is not one to not be moving and working!

Prayer warriors. We NEED you!  I am begging you to pray, share this site and have them share!  We need you all!

If you or you know someone interested in seeing if you are a match to be his donor, please go to the website  below and follow the directions!  You may also contact me at 515-491-5882 or tonyalj@hotmail.com

If you are unable to test to donate, I am asking for Prayers and sharing!

Dear friends,

Some of you may know that my Dad, James Baedke has a kidney disease.  Over time , his kidney has worsened, causing his kidney not to work well enough to keep him alive. This is what Jim is facing now, his treatment options are limited to dialysis treatments and NEEDING a kidney transplant.  His best option is for a live Donor due to his age and health.

He will be getting regular dialysis treatments, usually 3 times a week for hours at time, this will help his kidney do its job and keep him alive.  A transplant will offer him more freedom and the ability to live longer, healthier, and a more normal life.  A transplant will also give him more time with his family and friends and to watch his grandbabies Graduate, get married, have kiddos of thier own.  Just watch thenm suceed.

Unfortunately, finding a kidney for a transplant is NOT easy. Just ask the 100,000+ people on the waiting list for a deceased donor. Time is not on Jim's side.  He could be waiting for years, which he does not have.  The average wait time for a deceased donor is 5 years.  Many people do not make that time frame.

HOWEVER: RECIEVING A KIDNEY FROM A LIVING DONOR IS HIS BEST OPTION.

We are asking family members and friends to consider donating a kidney to James will greatly increase his chances of getting a transplant in time.  A living kidney donation typically lasts longer and has better function.

Thank you so much for considering, sharing and praying!
