Journal entry by Tonya Schlieman —
So today Dad ventured in to have his permanent (hopefully) fistula put in his left arm for Hemodialysis, and have the PD port removed. Went in at 8:50, was supposed to be 1 1/2 hours, about 2 hours in they told me they had trouble with his first site in the lower arm so had start further up in his arm. So at 12:30 he was out and said everything was good.
Finally got the call that I could go back in recovery about 2pm to see a horrible site as it has swollen to the size of a grapefruit… I will Add photos ( be warned it’s ugly). So wouldn’t you know it, back to the OR he went, they did this with local anesthetic this time. I got a report from the surgeon about 3:00pm. They got the artery that was leaking fixed and his arm is now normal!
He is home, in some pain, but they gave hi
Some good pain medication, so he should sleep well tonight! I was informed that his arm will be very bruised so beware. He had a goose egg in his tummy where they removed the PD port!
This man now needs to keep fighting and feeling better! He has had several good weeks so please keep up the prayers!
