James G. Buckley
James G. Buckley was born in Cork City, Ireland on July 12, 1928 and died peacefully surrounded by his family on August 4, 2018. He claimed to be a country boy from Ireland trying to make a living in the big city. His wife, Anne, agreed to try two years in Asia. After twenty years raising their four children Neil, Brian, Kevin and Oona in Korea, Thailand and the Philippines, they settled in Virginia for the last 30 years of his life. He valued a walk along the shore above anything material. He enjoyed a Manhattan in the evenings, and could be heard cajoling a guest into another drink with, "no bird flies on one wing." He was proud to be Irish and he was proud to be American. And many are proud to have known him. He was blessed with doting daughter in laws: Beth, Terry and Sheila and his darling grandchildren: Shay, Nick, James, Maeve, Isiaih, Jason, Brandon and Christian. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 10th, at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Fairfax, Virginia at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, James' preferred charities were Doctors Without Borders and Lalmba.
As a tribute to James' life, I thought it would be important to have a place where friends and relatives from around the globe can share memories, photos and tributes.  I recommend it as a way to celebrate his life, and I hope you will agree and enjoy posting your memories as well as reading those of others.
