2020 has been a very challenging year for us all but especially for Jalyn. On Christmas eve, while visiting her boyfriend's family in New Mexico, Jalyn, who is only 20 years old, suffered multiple strokes. Once she was admitted to the ICU stroke unit, it was discovered that she is COVID-19 positive. The Neurologist believes the strokes were caused by COVID. Her family and friends are unable to visit her and she is all alone, except for medical staff.
Jalyn has right side paralysis in her face, arm, hand leg and is unable to sit or walk without help. Her speech is very limited and using a phone is not possible at this time. She has had daily CT's and MRI's because she currently has a blood clot in her brain in the left basil ganglia. She is on medication to dissolve the clot.
Jalyn is a small town Colorado girl that was raised by her dad for most of her life. As a young girl, she danced with the Koshare Indian Dancers, played sports and gave her brothers a run for their money. Last month, Jaylin moved from La Junta to Pueblo, Colorado and rented her first apartment with her best friend. Earlier this month, she found out she is going to be an aunt for the first time and she is so excited! She is currently employed Target Distribution Center to support herself and to pay her own bills and is on her probationary period at work and has no health insurance.
Unfortunately, treatment and medical expenses are mounting. We do know she will need extensive rehab once she is discharged but we, as a family, have limited financial resources.
Her father is retired, a former Navy Persian Gulf War veteran who is himself disabled.
We know that life can change in the blink of an eye.
